Mrs. Morris' ABC's

A:  Absences-  Please be sure to send in a note explaining all absences.  Also pease be sure to keep your child home if they do not feel well, especially at this time of year.  Remember the 24 hour rule about fevers!!

B: Breakfast- Breakfast is an important part of your child's day.  It helps to give them teh energy they need to focus and learn in those hours prior to lunch.

C: Communication- This is the key to your child's success.  Communication between child, parent, and teacher will help to ensure yoru child's success.  You can use numerous different ways to reach me with questions, concerns, and/or ideas: FISH notebook, phone, and/or email (morris.lindsay@mayfieldcsd.org)

D: Differentiated Instruction- Differentiated instruction is the key to my program.  I feel it is very important to meet children at their individual level in order to help them grow academically and socially.  For this very reason children may be working on different books in reading or on a different spelling list than classmates.  Please be aware that whatever level they are working on is based on numerous assessments that I have given!

E: Every Night...READ!- It is so important for your child to be exposed to books every night, whether you are reading to them or they are reading to you.  We will begin a take home reading program in October (more info to come).  Be sure to keep up with the reading, it will only aide in their reading success!

F: FISH notebook- You have already familiarized yourself with our FISH notebook by now.  This notebook is meant to help students, parents, and myself with organization and communication.  This notebook should be brought home and returned every single day.

G: Gym- Please be srue your child wears sneakers to school on Monday and Wednesday for gym.

H: Homework- Typically there will be homework every night except Friday!  Student's will have a math worksheet every night, a spelling packet every otehr week, and a book to take home every night.  There may be special projects that will require more work done at home, but I will let you knwo in advance about these projects!

I: Ice Cream- Your child will be allowed to purchase ice cream in the cafeteria ONLY on FRIDAYS!  We only have 30 minutes to purchase and eat lunch every day.  Please send in ice cream money adn keep it in the zipper pocket on Friday if your child chooses to get ice cream.

J: JOIN PTA!- Please be sure to join PTA.  They do so much for our students, teachers, and school.

K: Kindness-  This is a big goal in our classroom, to always be kind to one another!

L: LOVE!- My passion is teaching!  I love what I do and I feel teaching is both a privilege and a responsibility.  I am always looking to improve, so if you find something lacking or have an idea that would make life easier, or would just like to comment on my program please always feel free to do so!  I welcome all ideas.

M: Morning Meeting- This is the way we begin every day.  It builds community, sets a positive tone, teaches children respect for one another, gets them excited about learning, and improves social skills.  Consider stopping in sometime to view a morning meeting.

N: Newsletter- Every Monday you will receive a newsletter in yoru FISH notebook (newsletter folder0.  This document will have important dates, upcoming events, and explains what we have been working on in class all week, so you will have common language to discuss with your child.

O: Outside recess- Once the weather gets cooler outside please be sure to dress your child in the proper clothing.  If you are unable to get some of these items, let me know and I will do my best to get them for you: boots, mittens, jacket, snow pants, hats, and scarves.

P: Parties- If your child is having a birthday and you wish to invite ALL the children in the class, you may send in invitations to be passed out in class.  However if you are only inviting certain children you must find another way than school to pass these out to avoid hur feelings.  I will be doing a class roster for the families who would like their info shared with the rest of the class to aide in situations like this.

Q: Quizzes and Assessments- Dates for assessments, quizzes, tests, etc. will appear on the newsletter.  I will certainly share all information I find out about your child with you at conferences.  If you wish to speak to me at any time regarding these matters please contact me and we can set something up...you do not need to wait until conference time if you feel the matter needs sooner attention, and I will do the saem for you!

R: READ 25- We will be participating in the READ 25 program this year.  Any book your child brings home from our A to Z take home reading program can be used towards READ 25.  I do expect all my students to reach this goal, especially since they will take home a lot more than 25 books from me alone this year.  You need to fill out the forms for READ 25 and send them back when you finish.  I will send more info home concerning READ 25 and the benchmarks for it.

S: Snack- We do have snack time every day at 2:15pm.  Each child needs to bring their own snack each day.  Sometimes I may have extra snacks for the children to have if they forget.  If anyone would like to donate goldfish, pretzels, crackers, etc. to the room in case this happens that would be great!

T: Treasure Chest- On Friday I pick 3 tickets out of our ticket jar.  Students get a ticket if they are caught going above and beyond the normal expected behavior.  The more tickets they have in the jar the better their chance of getting picked on Friday!

U: U!- You are just as important to me as your children are.  Please feel free to come to me about any questions or concerns you have.

V: Volunteering- I have a very open door policy.  If you would like to volunteer in our classroom please let me kwno.  When I need volunteers for field trips and other things I will send a not home requesting help.

W: Writing Workshop- We have writing workshop at least 4 times a week.  This is a time for your child to develop their writing skills.  This always begins with a mini lesson and then time for the children to apply what they just learned.  This will also be a time for me to pull small groups for spelling.

X: X-tra Help- If you feel your child needs extra help with something, please contact me.  There are many ways to provide your child with extra practice and instruction.

Y: Y?- Because I care!

Z: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ- Please be sure your child is getting adequate sleep at night.  The brain functions much better when it is well rested.
